heart tee

Today I embroidered a simple black tee with cheetah print I got from Joanns I cut out a heart in the animal print and in fusible interfacing, fused them together and sewed them in zigzag to the black tee I had laying around.

hombre necklace

Lately I've been trying to get into jewelry makeing, so I tried the diy hombre fringe neclace tutorial by megallencolecrafts on youtube. Here's mine:

I also stringed some beads(from joann) on stretch cord for my mom

both projects were SUPER easy

DIY Felt Wallet

Today, I made a felt wallet following a tutorial by Crafty Gemini and it was super quick and easy.  I decided to embroider a strawberry on the front also. I looked up a few pics of strawberry applique to get a feel for the shape to cut out.  If you decide to do this tutorial, be aware that  undoing stitches on felt is irritating, other than that this was a great, cheap craft; I plan to make many more.

domino nails

I wanted to do a simple nail design, so I decided to do a "domino" look.  I wanted to test out my new dotting tool, so this was what I decided on. I started with 2 coats of Sally Hansens' "Hard to get" then I used  L.A. colors art deco for the black. After I applied the white, I used the thin applicator of the L.A. color to draw the line and the dotting tool for the dots.  It was really helpful to be looking at a few dominoes while doing this.  It was my first time trying this, but I think it looks pretty good, at least on the left hand ;)

OOTD

Today I went scouring for a job, so my OOTD(outfit of the day) includes my regular New York and Co. flats, a forever 21 skirt, and a cami and shirt from Marshell's.  I'm really excited about the top I have because it's a high-low styled sleeveless button down and it's pink!
The quality of the pictures is really bad and I apologize for that.

Inspiration

So recently, in my sewing class we made some book covers, not too difficult, but introduced some techniques that are new to me.  One being batting, I've never worked with it, but it wasn't too dificult. We also did applique, which I really liked, it makes me really want to do some more.

Here's  how mine came out:

It came out well, I think.

Lately, with summer around the corner, I've been seeing a lot of inspiration with things I'd like to do.  For example maxi dresses, which could be pretty simple I think; I could also make some accessories for shoes and hair with some pearls I got from Walmart.  I'm going to try to write this type of stuff in my notebook, so I'll remember. I guess we'll see what happens!

Happy Valentines Day!

So, today has been a good day, and I hope it has been good for you too!  I had been questioning how it'd go since I'm single, but I shouldn't have worried, many good things have happened for me.

I started the day by figuring out what to wear, took me a while too(I was a little late to my first class), but I'm glad I took out the time.  I had told myself that I didn't want to overdress or underdress so I decided to wear this.

I layered two camis under a sweater, that I had cut the bands at the bottom, neck, and arms off(I got this from Walmart for 3$).  I paired this with jeans and tennis shoes and added some pearls and other jewelry.

Our school also had some teddy bears they were giving away for valentines day that we stuffed ourselves(sort of like build-a-bear).  Mine is on the bed, I named him Momo :)

Other good things happened too, but I won't bore you with details. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week!

Shanghai Girls by Lisa See Review

Shanghai Girls revolves mostly around a relationship between two sisters.  Pearl and her younger sister May, live in 1930s Shanghai; they are living a great life, full of wealth, happiness and limitless opportunities.  Until it is revealed that their father has gone into debt in his business and has no money to pay the mob except by selling his daughters through a planned marriage.  Also, there are bombs landing in Shanghai at the worst times possible, taking the lives of people they have known all their life.  Pearl has to make many hard decisions that will change lives forever, not only her own, but for her family too.

I feel as though my summary didn't go deep enough into the storyline, but believe me this story has MANY twists and turns.  I couldn't believe that so many bad things could happen to these girls without ruining their relationship.  Pearl is a very strong main character, even though she likes to play it on the safe side.  She gives up all of her hopes and dreams for her family and seemingly gets nothing back.  I loved her character, I wanted so many good things for her; but she gave her sister everything.  May was the "prettiest" sister, and was spoiled by everyone in her family.  I hated that she got whatever she wanted, but everyone let her get away with it, including Pearl.

I loved this book, but I have to say it was one of the saddest books I've ever read.  I saw my own sisters reflected in Pearl and May and continuously hoped for their happiness, but overall this book is great. It'll make you thank God that you were(if you were?) born after this time and really appreciate what you have.  I'd love to hear what you think!

Sewing project

I went to a local sewing shop yesterday where I made this super easy bag with a zipper.  I had never done a zipper before and now I'm so confident, I can't wait to make another bag.  The bag was vinyl so I couldnt pin it but that didn't make it any less difficult, we used sewer's double sided tape to place the zipper.  The needle did get a little gunky, but the tape is water soluble so you just have to wipe it off.
This is the bag inside out.

 Here's the bottom.
The measurements were 8 x 10 inches.  After cutting that, we started sewing on the zipper.  Once that was done, we sewed the sides, make sure the zipper is OPEN.  For more info on the corners, watch my video.  I then flipped it inside out and was done.
P.S. The last seam was 2 inches up from the corner.
